ABOUT LUIGI LONGONI

Biography Luigi Longoni was born in Parma in 1953. He got a Mechanical Engineering Degree (19•••10 cum laude at the University of Naples. He also got a Post Graduate Master of Business Administration, Bocconi University (Montedison - High Potential edition). He began his career in Fias S.p.A- an Italian small enterprise - where he was a Mechanical Designer, then Operation Manager and finally Sales Manager and Member of the Board. In 1983 he joined Tecno Fibre S.p.A.(Montedison Group) where he was appointed R&D Director and then Chief Technical Officer. In 1988 he was reassigned to Montedison Holding where he held the position of Group Engineering Director for the Advanced Material Group. In 1990 he moved on to Aeritalia, a company of Finmeccanica, where he held the post of General Manager of a Consortium between Aeritalia, Agusta and Enichem for research and development activities. In 1995, after the merger between Aeritalia and Selenia, in the new company (Alenia) he held the post of Director Technology Development & Director/Chairman of the Boards of some participated companies. From 1998 he was transferred to Alenia Spazio where he held different positions reporting to the CEO ­ Director of Programmes & Sales, Director Business Development & Industrial Innovation, and Chairman/Director in the Boards of the participated companies; also from 2003 ­ 2007 he was President and CEO of MARS. Late in 2004 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General and Director Policy-External Affairs of ASD ­ Aerospace and Defence Industry Association of Europe in Brussels (seconded by Finmeccanica). His mandate expired in September 2008. He is now back to Thales Alenia Space, a company formed by a merger of Alenia Spazio and Alcatel Space, now a JV between Thales and Finmeccanica.
