About Luiggie Alvarez
Luiggie Álvarez has spent over 21 years nurturing his passion for the culinary arts. Chef Álvarez began his professional career in 2001 as Banquets Chef at Arena Pier 10, following his graduation from the Caribbean Culinary Institute. In 2002 he expanded his horizons by moving to Ocala, Florida where he continued further culinary education with a focus on hotel Management and nutrition, while working as Kitchen Manager at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. In 2006, he was named Sous Chef of the Ocala Hilton, where he served for two years. After eight years outside his country, Álvarez returned home in 2009 and joined the culinary team of Hotel El Convento as Sous Chef - and was promoted to Executive Chef in September 2010. He oversees the kitchen of Patio del Níspero restaurant and the coordination of the hotel’s banquets. At the small and luxurious hotel, Álvarez has made a name for himself for his mix of Caribbean and international flavors. The harmony between innovative and traditional flavors go hand in hand with the contemporary and historical styles that characterize Hotel El Convento
