ABOUT LUCY NIESS

UX researcher who transitioned out of academia and into the gaming industry. I thrive in places that strive for inclusivity of different people in order to make a product more accessible for all users. I want to make a difference in their daily lives by understanding their struggles and provide them with solutions. Academically, I am primarily a qualitative researcher with a Ph.D. in Communication Studies (a field adjacent to psychology and human-computer interaction). I have 10 years of experience conducting research in areas such as critical interpersonal communication, health communication, and game studies. I am published in competitive academic research journals, using a variety of research methods that I have either designed myself or helped execute with a team of researchers. I was also an educator in research methods and I taught upper-division university courses on quantitative and qualitative methods as well as interpersonal communication. Fun facts about me: I shoot archery and attend competitions, mostly at the state but sometimes national level. I used to play taiko and the shamisen, which has led me to travel to Japan and perform on stage in front of hundreds of people. I\'m an avid Dungeons & Dragons player, which has led me to build my skills are improvisation and creativity (and gain the fundamental knowledge of UX Research - the user might not do what you intended or designed).
