ABOUT LUCY WALTERS
I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Science student at the University of British Columbia\'s Okanagan campus, enrolled in the Co-op education program and pursuing a major in Computer Science, where I have consistently held a 4.33 GPA each year.Currently, I am working as a Cybersecurity Intern at KPMG in Toronto, Ontario. I have also recently completed an 8-month Cybersecurity Internship at Seaspan ULC, where I focused on vulnerability management and gained practical experience in safeguarding systems against evolving threats. I also recently became a (ISC)² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) holder, further validating my technical knowledge and commitment to professional development in the field.I have worked three semesters as a Teaching Assistant for introductory Java programming courses at UBC, where I\'ve gained hands-on experience working with students and professors. In this role, I conduct labs to guide students through learning exercises and help them understand complex coding concepts. I also grade assignments and exams, and assist in invigilation duties. Overall, I have been consistently recognized for my teaching abilities, receiving excellent feedback from students in end-of-semester evaluations. This November, I was honoured to be a recipient of the 2025 BC Women in Technology Scholarship, which has further reinforced my commitment to being an advocate and role model for women pursuing careers in STEM. I have also been involved with Girls in Tech, a campus group that works to bridge the gap for women in technology-related fields. In my role as Design Manager, I used my art skills to create engaging logos, stickers, and posters to promote the club.My interests include cybersecurity, software development, and mathematics. Last year, I broadened my horizons with a semester abroad at the University of Edinburgh. This unforgettable experience allowed me to deepen my global perspective and work with students and professors from all over the world. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, travelling, drawing, painting, and baking.
