ABOUT LUCY CHIKWETU

I am passionate about technology, proficient in many programming languages, and can easily throw in a new language to my quiver. I also know how to design hardware and can even do so at the transistor level. I recently completed my doctorate at Duke University, and my research explored the intersection of mobile technologies, wearables, machine learning, and healthcare. Currently, I work as an engineer on a low-latency Direct Market Access platform that primarily serves top high-frequency and quantitative trading firms in the US, EMEA, and APAC markets. I write code that connects new exchanges, performs risk and sanity checks, and facilitates the movement of orders from clients to exchanges and back.My unique combination of skills, including software and mobile application development, server architecture, and the development of fit-for-purpose machine learning algorithms, positions me well for work on high-performance computing platforms. In addition to my engineering pursuits, I mentored a team of at least six resident assistants and seven first-year students as a graduate resident at Duke University throughout my graduate education. My experience living in a first-year dorm for 4.5 years reinforced my belief in the importance of effective leadership and cultivating positive team environments. I learned to manage a team by actually managing one. Life rarely presents us with such transformative opportunities, and I am thrilled to have seized that opportunity to learn. I now know how to lead a team because I have successfully led several teams over the years.
