ABOUT LUCY BAMFORD

Senior Curator of Art for Derby Museums Trust with a particular interest in the life and work of the 18th century artist Joseph Wright of Derby. Currently working on the digitisation of the Joseph Wright collection at Derby and the development of an online catalogue with funding from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (launching late summer 2025).Recent exhibition projects include: Joseph Wright of Derby: Life on Paper (23 May - 7 September 2025) at Derby Museums, for which I also wrote the catalogue; a major exhibition of William Hogarth\'s work, with Dr Jacqueline Riding (2023); an exhibition showcasing the work of the modernist sculptor Ronald Pope (2020); and a retrospective of the work of Derby\'s Surrealist artist, Marion Adnams (2017).I was the curatorial lead on the re-display of Derby Museums’ permanent Joseph Wright Gallery (2012) and Joseph Wright Institute (2014), and the author of a successful application to the MLA for the Designation of Derby Museums’ Joseph Wright Collection (awarded in 2011). Co-lead on RA 250 project to reinterpret the Joseph Wright collection with Derby Museums\' Young Co-Producers Network (16 - 24 year olds). Author and co-author of numerous successful acquisition funding applications and projects, including Joseph Wright\'s magnificent \"Self-Portrait at the Age of About Forty\"(2022).Former member of the Steering Committee of the British Art Network.
