About Lucas Allen

I’m a Director of Data Science at Red Ventures, where I lead teams building production AI products that combine traditional machine learning and generative AI across consumer home services businesses. My work sits at the intersection of people leadership, applied ML, and cross-functional execution, with a focus on turning ambiguous problems into systems that deliver durable business value.Some of my biggest strengths come from skills I’ve developed and refined across multiple careers: teaching, coaching, and now data science leadership. I get the most satisfaction from developing people and helping them meet their goals, while also being comfortable having difficult, direct conversations when needed. I view both as essential to building healthy, high-performing teams.Over time, I’ve also developed a strong ability to observe how cross-functional teams operate. I spend a lot of time watching how data science, product, engineering, and business roles interact, diagnosing where friction or misalignment exists, and helping teams adjust structure, process, or expectations so they can work more effectively together.I took an unconventional path into industry after a decade as a high school mathematics teacher, which continues to shape how I lead. That background sharpened my ability to communicate clearly, coach thoughtfully, and break down complex ideas. These are skills that have translated directly into building and leading data science teams. I remain very engaged in applied machine learning and generative AI, especially where systems, people, and decision-making intersect.
