About Lucas Matthews
I have always had a passion for supporting students academically, emotionally, and professionally. From volunteering to print copies for the teacher in my 7th grade class to serving as a Peer Mentor to first-year Roger Williams University students, my heart has always been in education and supporting others\' educational journeys. At first, I considered a career in classroom teaching, but after having some incredible teaching methods courses and amazing hands-on experience in the field, I realized a pivot towards student support was more aligned to my interests! As an Educational Studies and Psychology major, I have been able to merge two of my favorite interest areas together to customize a unique academic path for myself that has equipped me with a strong knowledge base of diversity, equity, and inclusion; pedagogical and professional practices for working with students grades 7-higher education; and experiential opportunities to apply theory to practice. My specific interest areas include supporting LGBTQ+, first-generation, students with disabilities, and other student groups in high school and undergraduate settings, as well as counseling and supporting students\' overall well-being at school. I am working at Argosy Collegiate High School in Fall River, MA this academic year in fulfillment of my senior capstone experience, and am in the process of applying to graduate school for school counseling post-graduation.
