About Lucas Huynh
I am a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon’s Healthcare Data Analytics program. I bring a strong clinical research background to the table having worked as an undergraduate research assistant for the University of Virginia’s Medical School, specifically in the Department of Surgery and in the Center for Health Brain Development. My research interests lie mainly in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, having completed wet lab benchwork with microglia, the brain’s immune cells, in treatment of Alzheimer’s. As well, my undergraduate thesis uses fMRI analysis to model the effects of socioeconomic status and math anxiety on how young children learn math and ways we can close the achievement gap for those in disadvantaged areas. I am passionate about merging what I can learn from a data analytics and machine learning perspective from Heinz with my clinical research background to foster more sustainable health outcomes for patients such as disease risk and genetic modeling. I hope to work with an employer who shares the same passion in using data to overcome health challenges in a neurocritical setting and treat diseases that have not been treated before.
