About L Jude Tantay
My life has been dedicated to the wellness, joy, and liberation of queer and trans people of color. As a clinical social worker, I offer person-centered, humanistic therapy to queer and trans people of color in Michigan. My therapeutic practice is grounded in anti-racist and anti-oppressive principles, embracing the Freirean ideals of trust, faith, hope, and love. As a consultant and coach, I provide opportunities for critical discussion around health equity, anti-racism, and expansive understandings of sexuality and gender. Many of my clients have been Black and Brown trans-led organizations serving communities of color facing financial and housing insecurity. As a researcher, I use qualitative and quantitative participatory action research to generate data that can be used for social justice advocacy. Research I have been involved in has focused on gender justice for queer and trans people, health equity and education, and data equity. As an applied theatre practitioner, I co-create transformative spaces to facilitate dialogue, build community, and uncover invisibilized histories and experiences. My theatre experiences have included working with people in recovery, trans elders and youth, and Filipinos across generations of immigration. My career has led me to work with many influential institutions and organizations, including: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Habitat for Humanity, Decolonizing Therapy, Community Catalyst, University of Michigan, Transgender Law Center, Trans Strategy Center, and Michigan State University.
