About Louise

I have strong communication and advocacy skills, and I believe in intersectional leadership. Hello! My name is Louise Ba and I am a second year at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, in the Master of Public Policy program with a concentration in Advanced Policy Analysis. I am one of six Provost’s Professional Education Diversity Fellowship recipients (20••••25) across all Master’s degrees at the University of Minnesota. My current research centers around the effect of remittances on the educational outcomes of households in Senegal-with a focus on gender differences, and the impact of credential recognition of highly skilled foreign born workers (workers with more than an associate\'s degree) on their labor force participation (income). I also work with the Institute for Urban and Regional Infrastructure Finance researching legislation on Connected and Automated Vehicles identifying opportunities to update Minnesota legislation. Outside of an academic setting I serve on the Board of Directors for Upstream Minnesota-an organization dedicated to encouraging Minnesotans to care for their natural places, nurture my love for the fine arts, target food insecurity in my community of North Minneapolis by growing and distributing free produce to my community, and volunteering as a mentor at my local Masjid, at my University\'s food shelf, and with the Women\'s Prison Book Collective.My career goal is to make my way up to the U.S Senate, representing my home state of Minnesota and to advocate for black and brown communities, and the voices of the underrepresented.
