Please join me in welcoming Louis to the Volkert family.”Louis brings to Volkert 29 years of experience with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), having most recently served as its Western deputy chief engineer. The region is responsible for over $4.5 billion in capital projects and manages a $650-million operations budget. As deputy chief, Louis was responsible for overseeing, directing, and managing the activities and programs of 7 transportation divisions; preconstruction section; mobility and safety division; asset management division; and the field support units. He also managed a staff of 4,500 employees, including 500 engineers and 2,100 transportation workers.Prior to being promoted to deputy chief in 2017, he served as a division engineer, division construction engineer, district engineer, resident engineer, and engineer associate at NCDOT.
