ABOUT KAMAL ACHARYA

I am a PhD Candidate in Information Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where my research bridges Artificial Intelligence, Neurosymbolic Systems, and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). My work focuses on demand modeling, intelligent transportation, and AI safety, with contributions supported by NASA’s University Leadership Initiative and NSF-funded projects.I have authored and co-authored publications in leading venues such as Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, IJCAI, International Conference on Big Data, CAI, ITSC, IWCMC, and AIAA SciTech. My long-term vision is to advance trustworthy AI for safety-critical systems and integrate research insights into teaching and mentoring.In service, I am actively engaged in the academic community through roles such as Day 2025 Ambassador, Region 2 Lead for and Conference Secretary for the Baltimore Technical Colloquium. I also serve as an active reviewer for top journals including Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Transactions on AI.I am seeking opportunities as a tenure-track professor to: Advance interdisciplinary research in AI, transportation, and safety-critical systems Mentor undergraduate and graduate students Contribute to the growth of research, teaching, and service in higher education
