About Lotee Baker

My past: I started my business at 13. I’m from a small town in Arizona where I grew up with one sister and my wonderful mom. I knew from an early age that money was tight but I also knew I had a dream, to go to college. So, I started College Bound Cookies. I started off small. I contacted my school, talked to administration, and started selling cookies on Friday lunches. From there my business grew, I reached out to more people, marketed myself on social media, and by 18 I was doing multiple orders of 300 cookies or more for customers like The Northern Arizona Association of Relators and Coconino Community College. My present: I am now attending Vanderbilt University as a QuestBridge Scholar and it is everything I have dreamed about. My major is Mechanical engineering and I am class of 2027. My favorite class has been rapid prototyping where I’ve learned valuable skills like designing, animating, and drawing in fusion 360, how to connect wires both mechanically and by soldering, and how to code a stepper driver and other electrical components with the Arduino program. All of these skills combined into my final project where I worked together with a group to create a fully functioning syringe pump. My Future: I hoping to take the skills I’ve learned in college so far and apply them to a summer internship. I have a huge passion in the design of amusement parks, especially the mechanical parts of the rides and the animatronics. I have always been amazed at how amusement parks can make you feel like you have stepped into a different world and bring so much joy to so many people. That is what I want to do with my life.
