ABOUT LORRIE GEORGE-PASCHAL

Dr. Paschal has been an occupational therapist for 36 years with 26 years in academia. She has expertise in teaching, scholarship, and service. Current teaching responsibilities include Applied Research I, II, and and Doctoral Capstone. Scholarship includes a disciplinary line of research and a line of research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Through collaboration with research partner, Nancy Krusen, she has created two instruments to facilitate practice and measure outcomes based on Occupational Adaptation. SoTL research includes intra and interprofessional education and course-based research.Dr. Paschal was a finalist for the University of Central Arkansas’ Service Award in 2018 and 2019. Service includes National, Community, University, College, and Department Service. She is the National Leader for the AOTA Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Institute and Mentoring Program. Community-based service includes establishing and administering a community-based program in an emerging practice area. Dr. Paschal facilitates an OA based mentoring program for adolescents in the Juvenile Drug Court with OTA faculty member, Melissa Bowen. As a voting member of the Faulkner County Juvenile Drug Court (FCJDC)Team, Dr. Paschal has contributed to a reduction in juvenile recidivism in the 20th Judicial District. Dr. Paschal Chairs the UCA Service-Learning Advisory Council (20••••17) and leads a Provost sponsored summer faculty fellows seminar. She provides consultation and designs the curriculum and facilitates faculty who incorporate service-learning in one course. She collaborates with the Service Learning Program Director and the Center for Teaching Excellence to assess the University’s service-learning initiative (George-Paschal, Hawkins, & Graybeal, 2019).Dr. Paschal is a member on the College Interprofessional Committee. She collaborates with faculty from nine disciplines to plan, administer, and research outcomes for the Interprofessional Forum (20••••19).~300 students collaborate annually to learn about roles, complete a concept map for a paper case and interview and create a team plan for a “live” client. Students gain an increased appreciation of their own profession and a greater understanding of how to collaborate with other disciplines.Departmental service includes recruitment of students and active engagement in assigned committee. She contributes to program evaluation, curriculum design, and accreditation. She oversees service-learning and level I FW students in the FCJDC program.
