With the support of City College I have developed and currently lead a unique educational model in which young people work as a media production company for a year whilst achieving a Level 4 qualification. Highly respected in the region, this involves managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring that they provide excellent skills acquisition for the students.Students form their own production company at the start of the academic year and go through a branding process to decide what makes them unique. They spend the rest of the year working as that company and develop a range of media products for a broad variety of clients. Each year I source a range of collaborators with whom to develop projects. These come from the private, public and charitable sectors. These include; Norfolk Constabulary, Police & Crime Commissioner’s Office, Norfolk County Council, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Nelson’s Journey, It’s on the Ball, and local festivals/events such as Royal Norfolk Show, Wild Paths music festival, Norwich Fashion Week and many more. Over the years, we are lucky to have worked with 100s of organisations and have cultivated longstanding relationships and repeat project partners. In conjunction with the relevant stakeholders, I scope the project brief and match it to the exam board requirements for the qualification. Alongside a great team, I support the students to pitch, budget, create and deliver a range of media. This includes promotional/short films, documentary, live events management, audio & design. Students also benefit from the expertise of production company, Eye Film who work as professional mentors on the course. Graduate success includes creating their own award-winning companies, working on blockbuster films and TV, and working for companies such as the BBC & ITV.
