Principal Consultant (with Nancy Poole). Galvanizing Equity is a company devoted to helping social service and health care clients make progressive change. We bring evidence to practical strategies to advance equity. We bring decades of experience from applied research centres, government, community, social service and NGOs to sticky problems such as health inequity & gender discrimination, and tough issues like addiction, violence and mental health. We have consulted on projects such as: tobacco cessation among underserved groups for PHAC; analyzing sex and gender in tobacco labelling; designing women\'s substance use treatment in corrections; introducing SGBA+ to the CCSA, MHCC and the CofE on PTSD; applying SGBA+ to safe consumption sites; developing gender transformative approaches with Our Watch, Women\'s Health Victoria and VicHealth; introducing trauma informed practice in the YWCA; assessing barriers for women scientists in heart and stroke; consulting on an innovation centre for a women\'s hospital; developing guidance on domestic violence in the UK; evaluating supportive housing for women with addiction and mental health issues; gender transformative public health messaging for the Australian Women\'s Health Network; an Equity Framework for the Tobacco Strategy in Alberta and trauma-informed practice plans for several Canadian provinces. I have authored 12 books on health and social issues and research methods. With Nancy Poole I have written Highs and Lows: Canadian Perspectives on Women and Substance Use (CAMH, 2007); Becoming Trauma-Informed (CAMH, 2012); Making It Better: Gender Transformative Health Promotion (with A Pederson)(CSPI, 2014) and Transforming Addiction: Gender, Trauma and Transdisciplinarity (with E Boyle)(Routledge, 2015) and hundreds of articles, technical reports and popular articles. In 2017 we released Gender Unchained: notes from the equity frontier, available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Indigo.
