About Lorna Baldwin
I am an Emmy and Peabody award-winning broadcast producer at PBS News, with 25 years of experience in nearly every corner of the newsroom. From my current role as senior producer, overseeing and planning the editorial direction of PBS News Weekend, to my work in the field on in-depth features, I strive to bring compelling, newsworthy stories to an international audience. People and storytelling are at the heart of what I do, and over the years I’ve crisscrossed the U.S. meeting hundreds of people as I reported on stories ranging from the water crisis in Flint, Michigan to tsunami preparedness in the Pacific Northwest, to the politics of poverty on the campaign trail in North Carolina. I conceived, researched and oversaw a 5-part series on the world’s burgeoning plastic problem, which was awarded the distinguished Peabody Award. I later expanded the series for PBS into an hour-long primetime documentary, “The Plastic Problem”. I was the lead producer of an investigative series on sexual harassment, abuse and retaliation within the U.S. Forest Service, reporting which led to congressional oversight hearings and the resignation of the chief of the Forest Service. That work also earned the Emmy Award for Outstanding Investigative Report in a Newscast. My work has also taken me overseas; from Costa Rica where we tracked sea turtle egg poachers, to the distinctive architecture of Rotterdam. I’ve also produced many newsmaker interviews, including President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, billionaire philanthropist Warren Buffett and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.I’m a self-starter with excellent news judgement, and a people person who is comfortable navigating uncertain environments and adapting on the fly. I produce, write and edit my own pieces.
