About Lorin Wertheimer
I am an Emmy-nominated storyteller with over 20 years experience. Here\'s what I excel at:WRITINGFilm, theater and television writing has given me a very strong sense of structure, story arc, character development and dialog. I am drawn to character-driven stories but know the value of a good plot, a strong hook, a solid ending. I\'ve worked across many forms and genres. In television, I\'ve written drama, comedy, and soap opera. In film, romantic comedies, comedies, period drama, and thrillers. In nonfiction TV I\'ve written (or produced) dramas on many topics, from teen parenting to true crime to food history and World War II.In nonfiction prose I\'ve done legal writing, history, theater criticism, and personal essays. With this variety of experience, I am quick to pick up a new style. I\'ve also taught undergraduate and graduate-level screenwriting. My writing has won high-profile commendations. I am a Macdowell fellow and an NBC New Voices fellow; I\'ve been nominated for Emmy and Webby awards. A short film I consulted on went on to win an Academy Award.PRODUCINGTo this day, when I tell my mother I am producing something, she will ask me what that means. I don\'t blame her; every job is different. One constant: as a producer, I am responsible for making sure nothing goes wrong. It\'s project management, people skills, encouraging and cajoling, problem solving, writing, directing, cleaning up, making phone calls. a little bit of everything.EDITING (PROSE) I\'ve done editing of one kind or another throughout my career but it is only lately that I\'ve started taking jobs that are solely editing. I specialize in developmental editing and line editing. COLLABORATIONTelevision writing is almost entirely done as a team and I\'ve learned so much from working with and listening to some very good TV writers. Similarly, almost everything I do as a TV producer is done with other people, whether it is preparing for production, making the show, or refining it in post. INTERVIEWINGI love talking to people and hearing their stories. I am pretty good at making people comfortable and opening up, both on camera and off.RESEARCHINGA lot of the nonfiction writing I\'ve done has been research intensive. The book I wrote for the law firm White & Case involved months of research, both reading archived material and interviewing dozens of subjects. Nonfiction television involves going through archival material. I\'ve spent many hours seeking out and watching obscure clips on obscure subjects. I love it.
