About Lori Baker
As a volunteer Public Information Officer for the American Red Cross, I research, write and edit press releases, newsletter articles, blog posts, social media posts and talking points about Red Cross programs, volunteers and disaster responses. I retired on June 30, 2024 as a member of the Arizona Department of Transportation Communications team. I planned, wrote and edited content for The Inside Lane, ADOT’s employee newsletter and I wrote content for the weekly e-news bulletin, ADOT Connection. I formerly served as the regional communications specialist for Tenet Health\'s Abrazo Community Health Network, which has six hospitals and several other facilities in the Phoenix area. I created external and internal communications in multiple platforms about Abrazo\'s outstanding staff and physicians, innovative technology and new services. At the former Phoenix Gazette, The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com for 35 years, I managed teams of reporters and freelance columnists who wrote topics ranging from aging to sports medicine. I used social media to reach out to the community for different perspectives while doing research for stories. I helped raise millions of dollars for nonprofit agencies and donations for schools through community relations projects. I engaged and empowered readers by providing accurate, provocative and informative news content in print and online. My expertise includes AP writing style, Microsoft Office software suite, social media, disaster communications, content management systems and covering a range of topics including education, business, healthcare, environment, nonprofits and city, county, state and federal governments.
