About Lori Moon

Welcome to my page! I have a passionate interest in modeling language. Everything we perceive in the physical world, including all of our emotions, dreams, and ideas are expressed through language. Finding a way to communicate with others makes our own thoughts and perceptions public and helps us feel connected by learning the thoughts of others. We live in a time where the volume of information we want to be aware of far exceeds the limits of our memory and time. Finding ways to model or label language provides a means for technology to assist us in processing information and communicating to others. I would like to go so much further than I have with research and development, building on my doctoral studies in Linguistics and postdoctoral work in Cognitive and Computer science. In the last 6+ years, I\'ve been working in industry positions and seen that every customer needs to be able to model language in a way that helps them reach their goals. While the experience with so many business applications has been insightful, I find myself returning to the ideas I had at the inception of MoonWorks, Inc. The wonderful advances we\'ve seen with Large Language Models cause me to feel the same way I did looking at LSTMs in 2019 and all through my experience with statistical natural language approaches - that we need to do more to incorporate a theory of language that makes predictions we can understand and correct.
