ABOUT LORI MALONEY
I coordinate the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture, a collaboration between 4 federal agencies, several nonprofits, and 17 states from Georgia to Maine, to protect and enhance wild eastern brook trout through science-based management and habitat improvement. Healthy watersheds drastically improve quality of life for people, both literally at the source (headwaters) and the sink (your kitchen sink, or the ocean). In my current role I help set regional targets and coordinate grant making to make cold water conservation happen, and I keep a focus on relationships and good communication. But I am also an ecologist and fisheries biologist. Therefore I often see my conservation and partnership work through lenses of ecology: strategies, trade-offs, co-benefits, networks, energy transfer, resource use, and at the root of it all, beauty. Specialties: Watershed conservation and restoration, science education (K-12, college, adult), public outreach, regional conservation goal-setting, community coalition building, technical writing, grant management and administration, editing, project management, data analysis, stream assessment, GIS, environmental permitting, public speaking.
