Member of the Effective Philanthropy Group, a team of specialists who offer in-house consulting to Hewlett program staff on strategy, monitoring, evaluation, organizational learning and grantee capacity-building. • Led the creation of Outcome-Focused Philanthropy (OFP), the foundation’s framework for developing, implementing, refreshing and exiting strategies. OFP provides practical guidance on all aspects of strategy—e.g, identifying the problem and possible approaches, selecting grantees, collaborating with other funders, working beyond the grant dollar, setting outcomes, tracking progress, and evaluating results.• Provide tailored guidance on strategy to all six programs: Education; Environment; Global Development and Population; Performing Arts; Philanthropy, and Special Projects. Work closely with teams on a wide range of strategies—from a global initiative investing $100 million a year in climate mitigation to a Bay Area strategy investing $6 million a year in arts education. Help teams learn from each other’s challenges and successes.• Manage a strategy for the foundation’s president seeking to address the housing crisis in the Bay Area. • Represent the foundation and contribute to the philanthropic sector through public speaking, writing, participation in sector events and affinity groups, and advisory roles on special projects (e.g, research on emergent philanthropy, Stanford course curriculum). • Oversaw the Organizational Effectiveness Program for 3.5 years. Managed a $3 million budget and made 100 grants annually to build grantees’ capacity in leadership development, strategic planning, fundraising, DEI and more.
