ABOUT LORENZO CALVELLI

I am an Associate Professor in Ancient History at the Ca\' Foscari University of Venice. My research interests focus on the uses of the past, on writing as a medium for communicating structured messages and ideas, and on the notion of forgery in relation to digital classical epigraphy. I am the PI of a major research project sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Education on fake Roman inscriptions and I sit on the Committee of the Association Internationale d\'Épigraphie Grecque et Latine, as a representative of Italy. I regularly serve as a blind reviewer for programmes sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Education and by the European Union, as well as for manuscripts submitted to scientific journals. At my home institution, I coordinate an interdisciplinary Research Institute on Digital Cultural Heritage, which counts over 100 members. I also sit on the board of the Center for Cultural Heritage Technology, which has recently been founded in Venice, thanks to a cooperation with the Italian Institute of Technology, with the purpose of protecting and ensuring both the digital and the physical preservation of cultural heritage through AI, ML and advanced 3D digitisation techniques.
