ABOUT LORENZO BREZZI

My research focuses on the intersection of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and infrastructure resilience. Key topics include: Composite Passive Anchors & Reinforced Earth Systems Development, testing, and field validation of composite anchoring systems for slope stabilization, retaining structures, and landslide mitigation. Bridge–Landslide Interaction Investigating how landslide processes affect arch bridges and adjacent structures, and vice versa. Emphasis on interdisciplinary modeling and risk assessment. Advanced Monitoring with Fiber-Optic Sensors Deployment and interpretation of fiber-optic sensing to monitor geostructures in service. The aim is to capture spatially dense and time-resolved data that go beyond what conventional sensors can deliver. Slope Stability under Extreme Loading Conditions Analyses (numerical, experimental) of slope behavior under seismic, hydrological or climatic extremes, including how reinforcement systems perform under such stressors. Educational & Outreach Tools in Geotechnics Design of interactive experiments, models, and demonstrators to make geotechnical phenomena more accessible and foster awareness of infrastructure challenges.
