ABOUT LONNIE SCOTT

I have 36 years of experience in law enforcement. I started as a Non-Certified Police Officer with the City of Gainesville in July 1985 and retired as a Captain in August of 2014. I accepted the position of Police Major with The Tallahassee Police Department in August of 2014, before returning to the Gainesville Police Department as Assistant Chief of Police in January of 2020. I have worked in and/or supervised every component of a law enforcement agency from Patrol to Administration. I was a member of the first Community Oriented Policing (COP) Team in 1987 and assisted with the design and implementation of the Department-wide COP philosophy in GPD excelled in the development of community partnerships to assist with the neighborhood problem identification and resolution, and culminated with improved community relations and crime reduction. I have served as Patrol Officer, Patrol Corporal, Police Sergeant, Special Operations Unit Supervisor and Commander, Personnel Commander, Violent Crime Taskforce Commander, Interim Assistant Chief of Police, Internal Affairs Commander, Shift/Sector Commander, District Commander, UF Football Game Operations Commander, Administrative Services Commander (Internal Affairs, Budget, Facilities, Personnel, Training, Fleet, Records, Property and Evidence, City of Gainesville Emergency Manager, New Headquarters Building Project Manager, Support Services Police Major Tallahassee Police Department (Criminal Investigations, Traffic, Special Events, Training, Records, Facilities, Fleet, Property and Evidence, Supply, Fiscal). I currently serve as Assistant Chief of Police for Operations (Patrol and Criminal Investigations Bureau) and also have Fiscal and Training units reporting to me.
