About Long Phan
I’m currently a strategy & operations officer at the Gates Foundation where I support system-level efforts in my home state of Washington to improve access to high-quality public school options for ALL students and increase the number of students pursuing education after high school—especially students historically furthest from opportunity (Black, Latino & Indigenous students, and students from low-income backgrounds).Previously, I worked in public service at the City of Seattle and the Obama White House. I started my career in corporate finance and investment management.My commitment to making an impact in education comes from my lived experience as the child of refugees, choosing to attend my neighborhood public schools, and being the first in my family to graduate from college. I’m proud to have grown up in White Center—a historically diverse, working-class community in south Seattle—and I’m passionate about creating more opportunities for the students at my alma mater, Evergreen High School.
