It is not everyday that one is invited to the White House. I was one of about 175 selected Educators invited to a convening on,\"Rethinking School Discipline.\"​ It was an awesome visit last Wednesday, July 22nd seated in a very comfortable auditorium with great access to the stage. The speakers including Senior Advisor to President Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Actress Anna Deavere Smith, US Secretary of Ed. Arne Duncan, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Cabinet Secretary and Chair of My Brother\'s Keeper Broderick Johnson were very upfront and personal. There were 5 breakout sessions available to choose from: 1. Identifying The Root Cause of Discipline Disparities 2. Developing Effective Codes of Conduct 3. Alternatives To Exclusionary School Discipline 4. Roles For Law Enforcement and the Courts 5. Addressing Trauma Many District Teams were present led by their Superintendent\'s. Throughout the day that began at 7:30 am other topics of discussion were concerning brain science approaches to discrimination in the schools, highlighting district progress/ perspectives, identifying and overcoming risk factors, and addressing trauma and community violence. Attorney General, Loretta Lynch\'s keynote added to a very solutions filled day that concluded at 5pm. It is my pleasure to share!
