ABOUT LOÏC MATTERN

The story begins in Montbéliard. I started my studies in web design and multimedia in 2014, but my interest in VFX became a passion when I discovered \"Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey\" at a design conference festival in Barcelona called which I was attending. Filipe Carvalho gave a brilliant presentation of his projects, mostly focusing on the opening sequences of prestigious movies or TV shows. He started by showing us his reel, but he only talked about a few of them in detail. And then there was \"Cosmos\". I was blown away by the poetry and the quality of this opening sequence. A few months later, while studying in Montreal, I stumbled upon the series on Netflix. I binge-watched it but stopped before the last episode because I didn\'t want this beautiful journey to end. From that moment, I knew I would work in the cinema industry. I graduated from my web design school and started a Bachelor\'s in Cinema in Strasbourg, followed by a Bachelor\'s in Multimedia in Valenciennes. After graduation, I immediately began working at CGEV, Paris for 8 months. There, I really confirmed my passion for VFX. But my dream was a bit different from what I could accomplish in that studio. Everyone there encouraged me to believe in my project, so I took the step. In January 2019, I began learning Houdini on my own. The story of \"Cosmos\" continues a bit later in 2019. During a Houdini HIVE event in Paris, I met a friend of mine who told me that he was working on the next season. I was so happy yet so frustrated not being able to work on such an inspiring project. That day, I made a promise to myself: I will try anything to work on the next season if ever another is produced.
