About Logan Schultz
My technical career started with fundamental research on biogeochemical systems. At the Montana State University Center for Biofilm Engineering, I researched methods to engineer biomineralization in porous media for goals such as contaminant removal, leak mitigation, soil stabilization, and others. At the Copenhagen University NanoScience Center (Denmark), I completed a Ph.D. and postdoc in geochemistry, investigating the impact of fundamental surface interactions between water and subsurface limestone and sandstone formations on water- and oil resources in northern Europe. In addition to academic research, I have a wide variety of classes in engineering, humanities, and chemistry, and I led research and academic programs as an Assistant Dean of the Honors College. For the past decade, I have been an industrial consultant and team leader, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to water management and predictions in mine-impacted systems. My team monitors and interprets complex geochemical data in natural and engineered systems, designs process units for passive water treatment, and provides high-level technical advising on risks and perturbations of potential operational and environmental changes. At the core of these experiences, I emphasize clear communication to clients so that informed decisions can be made in complicated systems where hydrology, biology, geochemistry, engineering design, compliance, and economics must all be considered.Connect with me to discuss approaches and collaboration for science-based solutions to understanding and impacting water.
Experience
Chemical Engineering Specialist, Geochemistry Team Leader
Sep 2019 — Present · Anaconda, MT, US
My team uses principles of geochemistry, hydrology, and chemical engineering to design, monitor, model, and troubleshoot water treatment systems for industrial clients. We regularly collaborate with academic and commercial labs to develop and lead experiments and sampling & analysis plans for field and lab systems. As a Team Leader in Geochemistry and Hydrogeology, I oversee and advise technical consultants who are involved in multiple projects in the western US, and I serve as a project manager for small technical-focused projects.
