ABOUT ANNIE LIANG

Health Specialist with over 10 years of international experience in the public, private, non-profit and humanitarian sectors, and in-country field experience in East Africa (Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania). I started off my career as a neglected tropical disease researcher, before moving into humanitarian then international development sectors. My technical expertise is in access to essential medicines and neglected tropical diseases (including alternative financing models for R&D and drug development), with major strengths in civil society engagement, data analytics and project management. I am passionate about youth empowerment, technology, and entrepreneurship. I\'ve represented civil society organizations at various high-level meetings, including the World Health Summit, the 67th World Health Assembly and the Civil Society Forums at the World Bank/ IMF Spring meetings, as well as coordinated the expansion of telemedicine-related technologies to over 60 country missions (>400 field sites) where Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors without Borders have operations. In 2019, I coordinated the World Bank Youth Summit Social Innovation Competition, singlehandedly managing a team of 14 young professionals and 21 technical specialists across both the WB/ IFC and across both HQ/ Country Offices to shortlist 885 urban tech proposals from 98 countries, with the pitch event livestreamed to viewers worldwide. Currently, I lead health sector engagement and policy dialogue in Fragile, Conflict, and Violence (FCV) contexts, including South Sudan and Sudan. My work focuses on strengthening health systems, ensuring continuity of essential health service delivery amidst conflict, and building resilience in crisis-affected settings. My work sits at the humanitarian-development nexus to ensure continuity of care in the most challenging environments.
