About Lizzy Palmquist
Senior Manager, Product Design & Research with 10+ years building design-led products and the teams that ship them. Most comfortable at the intersection of people leadership, research infrastructure, and feedback system design. At Roo, I\'ve scaled the design function from a solo contributor to a 5-person team — hiring every designer, building a feedback culture and review practice, and authoring org-wide Experience and Product Principles still used to resolve tradeoffs without escalation. I also built Roo\'s first structured research practice from scratch: a three-tier model spanning continuous discovery, project-based research, and strategic intelligence that I continue to lead today. Before Roo, I led UX for enterprise SaaS at CloudBees (DevOps) and spent years at agencies — Big Spaceship, Code and Theory, and AnalogFolk — designing for clients like HSBC, SiriusXM, JetBlue, Nasdaq, Clif, Luna, and StuyTown across FinTech, eCommerce, Travel, and B2B/SaaS.B.S. in Communication & Technology from Cornell, minor in Information Science.Portfolio: lpalmquist.com
Experience
Senior Manager of Product Design & Research
Apr 2025 — Present
Transitioned from building the design team to leading design and research as integrated functions. Currently focused on three areas:Research leadership: Formalized a three-tier research practice (continuous discovery, project-based, and strategic) that didn\'t exist before I built it. The most recent layer — a research intelligence system — turns thousands of support tickets into actionable, squad-level insights that product teams use in planning.People & team: Managing a team of 5 designers I hired and grew from scratch. Built a feedback culture, a design review practice, and a hiring bar before any of those things officially existed at Roo. Authored the Experience Principles and Product Principles used org-wide to resolve tradeoffs without escalation.Shipped work: Led the Ratings & Reviews redesign — reframing what looked like a UX problem (a broken 5-star system) as a trust problem, then driving cross-functional alignment on a double-blind rating architecture that connected UX rationale to data quality and marketplace health.Cross-functional influence: Sit at the PM and Data tables as a contributor, not just a presenter.
