ABOUT LIZ DAY
Liz Day is an Emmy Award-winning journalist for The New York Times. She joined The Times in 2018 to help launch its first major television series. In 2021, Ms. Day co-created the critically lauded documentary “Framing Britney Spears,” which sparked a national conversation and spurred new laws aimed at reforming the conservatorship system. In follow-up investigations, Ms. Day also exposed how Ms. Spears’s father had secretly recorded his daughter in her bedroom and spied on her texts and phone calls. Prior to The Times, Ms. Day was a senior news producer for HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which won a Peabody for explaining complex issues to a wider audience. She produced deeply researched segments on topics including Herbalife, the NCAA and Alex Jones and debunked the Miss America pageant’s scholarship claims in an episode that resulted in viewers donating tens of thousands of dollars to fund other scholarships for women. Previously, Ms. Day was the Director of Research for the investigative reporting nonprofit ProPublica, where she reported a PBS Frontline documentary about the deaths of cell tower workers and exposed how TurboTax fights free tax filing – coverage that ultimately led to state and federal investigations. She also worked for ABC News’s investigative unit and NBC Universal. Ms. Day graduated from The University of Pennsylvania and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
