Acting as deputy to the UK CRO and leading the Pan-UK and P&C Risk team in a program of transformation to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the UK’s ERM framework and control environment.In this newly created role, I bought together P&C business partnering; operational risk management; ERM framework design and oversight; and controls oversight creating a high-performing, collaborative team providing robust second line challenge and oversight to the UK business. My key responsibilities include:• Providing independent, evidence-based opinions and insight to the UK’s complex and diverse P&C business and Pan-UK functions (including IT, Data Analytics and Finance) across operational, financial and strategic risks.• Delivering robust and insightful CRO reports and risk opinions to executive-level committees and boards within the UK and to Group functions.• Overseeing the design and operation of the UK’s ERM and control framework.• Delivery of second-line oversight of business resilience and third-party risk management.• Acting as CRO for the UK’s main non-regulated entity including developing a proportionate risk appetite and control framework for the UK’s engineering and resilience services businesses.I have spearheaded a program of Risk Transformation to deliver a simplified and efficient risk framework and support a culture of intelligent risk taking within the UK business. Key successes include:• Re-designing elements of the risk mandate including approach to business partnering and risk assurance activity.• Launching a grounds-up review of the control environment with the aim of simplifying and automating processes, consolidating control activities and removing redundant controls.• Introducing PowerBI data visualization capabilities to automate risk and controls reporting, improve data quality and provide enhanced risk insights.• Leading a targeted risk culture engagement, communication and training program supporting intelligent risk taking.

ABOUT LIZ RYAN
Coming from a strong technical actuarial background working in financial reporting and capital management roles across industry and consultancy, I joined Zurich UK’s Risk team in 2015 as Commercial Risk Director delivering key risk and capital initiatives alongside delegated responsibilities for the CRO.To further develop my leadership skills and immerse myself in the P&C business, I joined Zurich UK’s Claims Leadership Team in 2018 building a mixed-discipline, high-performing team providing internal and external customers with proactive insights into emerging operational performance and claims trends. I also led the development of Claims’ strategy and oversaw delivery of automation, digital and continuous improvement capabilities. I re-joined Zurich’s UK Risk team at the start of 2024 as Head of P&C Risk and ERM Transformation acting as deputy to the UK CRO and leading a program of strategic change activity to deliver a simple and proportionate ERM framework for the UK business.
