About Liz Derr

Liz Derr combines deep software development expertise with a strong foundation in leadership and business management. She has a passion for innovation, having co-founded two startups. Her career in software development spans 34 years and includes technology roles at Amdahl, Informix, and Autodesk, and executive roles at Egreetings and Monsoon Commerce.Prior to founding Simularity in 2011, Liz spent 7 years at Monsoon Commerce (formerly Alibris), first as Director of Software Development, then VP of Engineering, and finally Chief Operating Officer for the last 3 years she was there. Liz started her career programming in IBM 370 assembly language for Amdahl in 1987.Simularity is a geospatial intelligence company that uses AI to detect important changes on the ground through a variety of geotemporal and geospatial data from optical satellites, Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites, drones, RF data, multispectral imagery, AIS ship location tracking, and more. As CEO and lead Geospatial Intelligence analyst at Simularity, Ms. Derr has brought about the democratization of satellite imagery intelligence that was previously only available to wealthy first world countries. We have a free South China Sea monitoring service that is used my Southeast Asian militaries and news organizations around the world. Our phenomenal success with our SCS monitoring service has led us to create the Simularity Foundation where Simularity software is used by GEOINT analysts to monitor hot spots, disasters, aggression, illegal fishing, ecological damage, and human rights abuses world wide. We make our reports freely available to the public, investigative journalism-style, to bring about positive change. No longer will those who wish to oppress others, act illegally, or pillage our natural resources be able to do so un observed.
