About Bonan Liu

With 10+ years of experience in software engineering, I am passionate about developing and scaling data platforms that enable machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. My field of expertise is distributed systems and cloud computing, and I currently work as a staff software engineer at Cruise, a leader in the autonomous vehicle industry.At Cruise, I am part of the team that builds and maintains the data platform that supports machine learning workloads specific to autonomous vehicles. I use my skills in C++, Python, and Go to design and implement data pipelines, storage systems, and APIs that handle petabytes of data and millions of requests per day. I also contribute to the research and innovation of new technologies and solutions that improve the performance, reliability, and security of the data platform. In addition, I leverage my teaching experience as an adjunct lecturer at City University of New York, where I developed and offered a course on distributed systems and cloud computing, to mentor and coach junior engineers and share best practices within the team and the organization.
