About Lisa Raphael

Hi, I\'m Lisa, and I’m trying to figure out how to do my work for free. In this economy? It’s a little crazy, just like my career has been.I got my start in media at the exact time one had to blog while still transcribing interviews with a foot pedal recorder. Working in magazine and TV, I got to interview idols, help create some, write for and as them. I took these people, publications, and programs into new digital spaces they “didn’t get,” while advocating for us to speak to (and hear from) audiences traditionally left behind.I moved from NYC to SF to work in media startups, eventually co-founding one that had big goals and bigger barriers to break through. My tiny-but-mighty talented team did more than most, and I experienced the low lows of raising money as a woman. After the startup’s acquisition in 2019, I founded Relatable Content, a words-first creative studio blending branding and business development—two essential ingredients for success that can be wildly hard to budget for. Over the years, I’ve worked to make our services accessible to underrepresented founders and pro-bono when possible for small business owners. As I run Relatable Content, I’m currently in school studying policy and public administration, advocating for investment in the creative economy and the interests of my local communities + the businesses that power them. If you’re an Oakland- or Bay Area-based business, organization, or wannabe entrepreneur, reach out! If you’re a big business who believes in hiring human creatives, hire us! We\'ll do exceptional work for you, and you\'ll help us meet our mission of serving small businesses.
