ABOUT LISA NEYMAN

I am an enthusiastic marine mammal ecologist with a keen interest conservation management, ecological monitoring, spatial analysis, a Master of Science in Marine Mammal Science, and over 9 years of experience in marine research. I seek to better understand the relationships between marine mammal populations and their environments, whether that be describing environmental features that could be used to predict presence, assessing how perturbations and anthropogenic impacts may influence population trends, or determining if management plans successfully meet their objectives. To that end, I have developed strong quantitative and hands-on skills including in statistical analysis and database management with R, Python and SQL, spatial analysis and visualization with ArcGIS, image analysis with Adobe Photoshop, boat-handing and offshore experience, and have collected behavioural, acoustic, and distribution data in the field. While analytical skills are essential, they alone do not always make for a successful scientist; personal traits and interpersonal skills are also important. My colleagues would describe me as a driven, inquisitive, and resourceful individual who is easy and fun to work with. I have been a key component in numerous successful group projects and really enjoy working as part of a team. Currently I am seeking employment opportunities that will allow me to use my diverse skillset to advance the understanding of cetacean and pinniped ecology and their future in this changing world.
