Gubernatorial Appointment, Board Member @New River Fine Art

Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Lisa Burgess, President of New River Fine Art and Burgess Modern & Contemporary to the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. As part of the gubernatorial appointment, Burgess will serve a four-year term on the 15-member council advising the Secretary of State regarding cultural grant funding and on matters pertaining to arts and culture in Florida. Burgess resides in Fort Lauderdale and is President of New River Fine Art, a gallery on Las Olas Boulevard that has brought 20th Century, Pop, and Contemporary Masters as well as emerging artists to South Florida for over 22 years. She is also the founder of Burgess Modern & Contemporary a fine art advisory, art projects, and publishing company. Among her other philanthropic efforts, Burgess is a member of Funding Arts Broward, supporter of the Symphony of the Americas, and a Directors Circle member for the Nova Southeastern University Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. “As a long-standing supporter of the arts in South Florida, I look forward to assisting the Florida Council on Arts and Culture on a statewide level. Arts and culture support jobs, tourism, and education while contributing to a vibrant and creative Florida. I welcome the opportunity to advance, support, and promote arts and culture for all Floridians,” stated Burgess. In her new role, Burgess and other council members will advise the Secretary in matters that pertain to the Division of Cultural Affairs’ arts and cultural programs as well as grants administration. The Florida Council on Arts and Culture works to develop and inspire participation and appreciation of the arts, public interest in the state\'s cultural heritage, as well as expand cultural resources. In addition to these responsibilities, she and her fellow councilmen will also review applications and recommend priorities for grants regarding acquisitions, renovations, and construction of cultural facilities throughout Florida.
