ABOUT LISA A.

Philosophy of Teaching and Counselor EducationLisa V. Andrews, MSW M.Ed M.S.Leadership Equity Access Diversity Counseling Philosophy It is my core belief that the counseling professional is a leader charged with the task of building college knowledge, increasing access to institutions of higher learning, and equipping students with the skill set needed to successfully compete within a globalized workforce. This effort requires familiarity with theoretical perspective\'s informing student learning and motivation. Our profession must focus on the learning needs of diverse student groups whose status may foreclose them from realizing learning goals. Teaching Goals My teaching framework is intentionally focused on pre-service training that is leadership focused and challenges pre-service students to develop guidance programs that advocate for equitable academic practices and inclusion. Emerging Counselors should realize that our profession is a purposeful vocation where it is our mission to adopt a scope of practice that is predicated on goals of equity, access and encompass an understanding of the social trends leading to the achievement gap. Emerging Counseling practitioners should strive to change the trajectory of the profession by using a social justice framework that engages pupils in an educational planning process that brings transparency to the interrelatedness of systemic oppression, educational achievement and social mobility. This will influence the development of responsive guidance programs that meet diverse learning needs and include interventions that guarantee their collective access to rigorous instructional. Ultimately our collective professional mission would be to ensure that pupils emerge from the school setting with the counseling competencies needed to aid students in acquiring a college-to-career readiness mindset that is congruent with 21st century workforce demands.
