Through this position, I serve as folklorist with the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance for its work on behalf of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) to lead the development of folkways programming and documentation in rural counties including Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana and Jefferson.This position includes fieldwork, community development, public programming, event creation, documentation, and editorial services. It also includes creating a database of relevant artists, folk creators and organizations for future use. Lastly, this role also works to identify folkway creators to engage in grant-funded apprenticeships.The folkways I am working towards helping to develop include traditional local arts, such as weaving or woodworking, but also the less acknowledged, including tattoo artists and sourdough bread makers.
