About Lindiwe Rennert

My current research focuses on the interplay between transit (service, policy, infrastructure), behavior, and outcomes – with a specific eye toward racial equity. Using a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, some of my recent work entails examining the determinants of transit-proximity premiums on housing costs, analyzing changing travel behavior in gentrifying cities, looking at perceptions held within Black communities toward different methods of transportation enforcement, measuring rider perceptions of fear in transit spaces as impacted by COVID-19, and developing a model for operationalizing reparations through transit planning in the US. Framed more broadly, my primary research interests include the following: transportation planning and design, travel behavior, racial justice, gentrification and displacement, data equity and accessibility, civic inclusion, and socio-spatial power dynamics.
