As an experienced and effective independent non-executive director and a former Chair and CEO, I bring business experience with a background as a lawyer to the board table, delivering improved performance. Working with a range of boards and charities, my focus is always on enhancing performance. I enjoy the role of a non-exec and I\'m told I bring balance, in my perspective and judgement, and by being challenging but supportive. • Making the right decisions - I help organisations make the right decisions, by encouraging good governance, commercial focus, clarity of information and balancing detail and the bigger picture. • Making the most of talent - I believe that businesses can only succeed if they engage their people and make the most of their talent. I encourage organisations to focus on people as part of their strategic thinking to ensure they can deliver on change, get diversity of thought and experience, and improve productivity. • Improving performance - I work with organisations I respect and am happy to be an ambassador for them. I like to get to know my organisations and their people so that I understand them at all levels and see how board decisions can be implemented to ensure that change happens and performance improves. My current roles are- Non-exec Director • Edinburgh Airport Ltd • Coutts & Co My board roles now straddle transport and infrastructure, financial services, private equity and I have a non-governance role in two charities. During my legal career, I worked in a regulated environment with businesses in the financial services sector and the drinks and leisure industries.
