I am a freelance writer/editor. My fourth novel, EVERY FAMILY DOUBT, will be published in 2019. My third novel, EVERY HIDDEN FEAR, was published in 2014 and was a National Latina Book Club Best of 2014 Book, 2nd Place, International Latino Book Award, a finalist for the Premio Aztlán Award, and a Las Comadres National Latino Book Club selection. My second novel, EVERY BROKEN TRUST, was published by St. Martin\'s/Minotaur in 2013, a Las Comadres National Latino Book Club selection, and a finalist for the International Latino Book Award. My first novel, EVERY LAST SECRET, won the Malice Domestic Award for First Traditional Mystery, was a Barnes & Noble Must-Read Mystery, a Las Comadres National Latino Book club selection, and a finalist for the International Latino Book Award. In 2017, I published PLOTTING THE CHARACTER-DRIVEN NOVEL, based on my popular online course. I have published three books of poetry, DARK SISTER (Mammoth Publication) just published in February 2018, SKIN HUNGER (Potpourri Publications/Scapegoat Press) and HEART\'S MIGRATION (Tia Chucha Press), winner of the 2010 Thorpe Menn Award for Literary Achievement and finalist for the Eric Hoffer Book Award. In 2017, I co-edited the anthology, THE WORLD IS ONE PLACE: NATIVE AMERICAN POETS VISIT THE MIDDLE EAST, and edited the anthology, WOVEN VOICES: 3 GENERATIONS OF PUERTORRIQUENA POETS LOOK AT THEIR AMERICAN LIVES, also a 2013 finalist for the International Latino Book Award. I have received the Inspiration Award from the ArtsKC Fund, the Midwest Voices and Visions Award from the Alliance of Artists Communities and the Joyce Foundation, and the Elvira Cordero Cisneros Award from the Macondo Foundation. I have been a Ragdale Fellow and a Macondo Fellow. I have also published a cookbook, THE \"I DON\'T KNOW HOW TO COOK\" BOOK: MEXICAN (Adams Media), still in print after ten year. My short story,\"The Good Neighbor,\" published in KANSAS CITY NOIR, has been optioned for film.
