As a current participant in the Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences programme (Royal Society of Chemistry), I have engaged in a structured professional development experience aimed at increasing representation of ethnic minorities in STEM. This includes on-site visits to leading organisations such as GSK, AstraZeneca, Unilever, and Nanometrics, as well as attending industry events designed to foster networking and exposure to a variety of career paths. These opportunities have provided direct insight into industrial research, development processes, and global operations within the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.Through this programme, I have built a strong foundation in professional networking, communication, and career planning. I have connected with and learned from senior industry professionals, hearing first-hand about their career paths and challenges, while actively developing my interpersonal, employability, and career development skills. These experiences have broadened my perspective on the opportunities available in STEM and prepared me to transition confidently into a future role in the chemical sciences or pharmaceutical industry.
