ABOUT LIN GAO
I am a PhD researcher at the Hertie School in Berlin. My research broadly explores the interplay between organizational agency and institutions, especially in the context of societal transformation. My current research explores three interrelated themes:(1) how historical, cultural, and sociopolitical templates shape the trajectory of innovation;(2) how organizations make sense of and construct changes; and (3) the role of language in shaping field-level dynamics and outcomes. In my monographic dissertation, I investigate how intermediary organizations in China translate and reinterpret the idea of social entrepreneurship. I trace the evolution of meanings and unravel the mechanisms that drive intermediaries to interpret social entrepreneurship in an increasingly distinct way despite institutional pressures for convergence.
