ABOUT FERNANDA LIMA
My passion for nature and animals stems from my upbringing; my memories go back to when I was little and used to save little insects from being stepped on, while driving my mom crazy every time I\'d bring a stray dog home to give them a better life. When I grew up a little older though, I became completely involved with many of the social and environmental injustices that we currently face, with both human and non-human beings; which has driven me towards a plant-based lifestyle shift. Such decision was also supported by its intrinsic connection with other complex - and equally important - factors: the current climate crisis, the lack of social justice and food security, species on the brick of extinction, massive deforestation and displacement of entire communities, including Indigenous peoples.I am known for being a very \'smily\' kind of person. Always laughing and keeping up my good mood, trying to leave my footprint in this big, constantly changing world, even when it seems easier to lose hope surrounded by frightful sights. Still, I truly believe in creating healthy communities that can foster thriving natural habitats, and circular economy as the main economic model to produce, consume and create. My curiosity about the ocean and marine life has guided me to a Bachelor’s Degree in Oceanography, which has allowed me the opportunity to learn about the creatures I\'ve always loved, and to understand the field from another perspective. As life is constantly changing, I\'ve had to prove to myself my own ability to adapt to new circumstances, which surprisingly granted me with some amazing work experiences that have shaped who I am today, and the goals that I want to achieve: building my career in the environmental non-profit sector, creating strategies to support justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI), and prioritizing communities\' wellbeing and sustainable economic systems through positive social change.
