ABOUT LILY BATEMAN

As the specifics of my experience are listed below, I will share the throughline of my career trajectory. I was raised in rural Nova Scotia by two full time artists. While I always loved the arts, there was something about solving technical problems that has engaged me for as long as I can remember. I was grateful to have become a Loran Scholar, which enabled me to attend the University of Toronto and obtain an HBSc in astrophysics and math. During this time, the work I enjoyed the most was coding. After my degree, I was looking for an adventure and a way to re-engage my creative roots so I moved to the Yukon where I worked at an arts institue. While this was one of the most enriching experiences of my life, I found myself missing technical work so I began developing my knowledge and skills in quantum computing and ML. I then obtained an ML data contract in the fintech industry, where I currently work as an ML product engineer. While my career trajectory has not been traditional, I believe that this combination of creativity, communications, and rigorous scientific technical work has been my strength when implementing ML models and developing product solutions for users.
