ABOUT LILY SNYDER
I am passionate about human rights, international law, and advocating for marginalized communities. My experiences—from working with formerly incarcerated individuals at the Anti-Recidivism Coalition to assisting refugees at the Asylum Protection Center in Serbia—have reinforced my belief that legal systems should prioritize justice, dignity, and rehabilitation over punishment. At Occidental College, I study Diplomacy & World Affairs, a field that allows me to engage with the intersections of international relations, law, and social justice. Through research and hands-on experience, I have explored the role of civil society in fostering democracy, the realities of asylum policies, and the impacts of political memory on human rights. I plan to pursue a career in human rights law, focusing on the intersection of migration, incarceration, and international legal frameworks. I am particularly interested in organizations that fight for immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, and policy changes that bridge the gap between legal protections and lived realities.
