ABOUT LILY PORTMAN
Lily Portman is a writer and director based in Worcester, working across film, television, and animation.She is the co-founder of Middling Women Ltd, a Midlands-based production company developing original screen projects that centre underrepresented voices and regional narratives. The company is currently establishing SEIS and building a slate of culturally focused projects.She also co-founded Middling Connect - a Midlands forward, vetted crew database.After training and working as an actor — including voice work for Nickelodeon and stage work with Worcester Repertory Theatre — Lily transitioned into writing and directing during the pandemic. Her debut short film Dosed (2022) had a strong festival run and was recognised by the Midlands Movie Awards and Worcester Film Festival.Her directorial debut comedy short QUIET, starring Philippa Dunne (Motherland, Derry Girls) and Luke Rollason (Extraordinary), and co-produced by Gobby Girl, is currently in post-production and heading to festivals. She is also developing a children’s animation project with Pamela Aculey and Will Poulter, alongside an expanding slate for Middling Women.Lily has been recognised by the BBC Comedy Collective, BBC Ignite, and multiple international screenplay competitions. Her work focuses on character-led storytelling with a strong sense of place, tone, and cultural relevance.
